Lorsqu’on travaille dans une ONG à Kaboul, les opportunités d’aller se rendre compte de la mise en place des activités sur le terrain sont peu nombreuses. A cause des restrictions dues à l’insécurité, les mouvements des expatriés sont sévèrement limités. Le seul moyen de suivre les progrès du programme est souvent de lire des rapports dans son bureau, tandis que la réalité locale se limite à ce que l’on voit défiler derrière les vitres de la voiture. Dès lors qu’une occasion de sortir se présente – ce qui nécessite un alignement de planètes propice – il faut bien entendu sauter dessus. Ainsi, après cinq mois en Afghanistan, j’ai finalement eu la possibilité de parcourir la ville avec les patrouilles de Terre des hommes et d’observer leur travail auprès des enfants des rues.

My name is Naïm*, I am 14 years old and I am living in a low level family. To support them, I started selling cigarette, chewing gums and sometimes drinking water during the football matches in the stadium. Regardless of being tired, I could earn an amount of 50 to 70 Afghanis during the day; sometimes I was even earning nothing. This situation continued for almost four/five years, and I made no complains about my life.

Despite recent debates concerning when did the first International Women’s Day occur, everyone agrees that it is at least 100 years old. It was originally launched in order to put women’s rights on top of the agenda.
And every year, during a week or so, articles are published to highlight women’s plight around the globe.
And every year, the situation described is horrendous.

But there are hundreds more working hard from behind the scenes to change the fate of women and children all over the world.

Novembre 2010, j’apprends que je dois partir en mission.
L’idée de découvrir un nouveau pays, ou de retrouver un pays connu, de voir nos activités sur le terrain, de rencontrer nos bénéficiaires … est toujours très excitante pour moi. Cette fois c’est l’Afghanistan : j’accepte bien volontiers, car ce pays a toujours été pour moi un mystère, comme un endroit interdit et c’est exaltant !
L’annonce à ma famille et à mes amis de mon départ imminent pour Kaboul n’était pas facile et plus la date de mon départ approchait, plus l’angoisse s’installait.
